Love cheese? You could be sitting – or rather sleeping – on a fortune.
Sleep researchers are paying people up to $1000 to eat cheese before bed as part of a study to see how different cheeses affect sleep quality.
According to Insider, Sleep Junkie, a research company affiliated with mattress retailer, Amerisleep, LLC, is looking for participants to study whether or not the old myth that cheese causes nightmares is true.
“In order to test this theory we are hiring a team of five ‘dairy dreamers’ to experiment on the impact that eating cheese really has on our sleep quality, energy levels and whether it increases the likelihood of nightmares,” SleepJunkie reveals. “The chosen candidates will be paid for their work and all cheese costs will be expensed. Our dairy dreamers will become our official cheese testers, providing honest feedback on how eating various kinds of cheese before bed impacts their sleep quality.”
“If chosen, our sleep experts will provide a list of cheeses that should be eaten each week, from a variety of cheese types, such as blue, hard, soft-ripened and processed,” SleepJunkie explains. “The trial will also include vegan and lactose-free cheese within the selection.”
Insider reports the trial will start in March and last for three months. After eating various kinds of cheese before bed, the chosen applicants will have to write an evaluation of their dreams, nightmares and overall sleep quality when they wake up each morning.
Applicants must be 21 and over, sleep alone, keep a consistent sleep schedule and own a smartwatch or fitness tracker. Those with sleep issues or people suffering from lactose intolerance may not apply.
